The tournament joins the American and Aussie Opens in utilizing replay systems.
Video review technology are set to arrive at The Championships this year.
Players are granted the ability to question specific rulings from the official, following the protocol already in place at each of the US Open and the Aussie major.
This innovation is slated for use on Centre Court and the number one court throughout the tournament and on the remaining show courts when they are hosting singles matches.
This step follows just a year after the AELTC implemented ELC, which effectively ended the centuries-old tradition of line judges.
Scope of Challenges
Players will not be permitted to dispute the accuracy of the ELC system, but they can ask for the official to re-examine other situations, such as:
- Whether a tennis ball has double-bounced.
- Whether a shot touched an rival's racket or body on the way past.
- Potential hindrance end of a rally.
Notably, there will be no limit on the amount of challenges a competitor can ask for.
Practical Application
A recent case took place in a recent tournament last week, where a top player used the video challenge against his opponent.
Draper conceded it was a tough call for the official, but believed his rival had "played the rules effectively."
The umpire viewed a replay and ruled the player was guilty of interference, awarding the point to his opponent.
Wider Implementation
This technology aren't exclusive to major tournaments. It has been in use at the American major since 2023 and the Aussie Open since 2025.
Furthermore, it is becoming more common on the WTA circuit, and by the coming year the ATP circuit will have video reviews in place at every one of its events.
Additional Innovations
Another innovation at Wimbledon 2025 will be the addition of visual indicators on displays to complement the audio calls from the ELC system.
This addresses instances where spectators have sometimes been unsure whether a ball was out or in.
In other news, with precisely 100 days remaining until the start of the Championships, the AELTC have further announced an expansion in daily attendance at the qualifying competition in Roehampton.
